Compounding

Custom medication, prepared by a licensed pharmacist for one patient, from one prescription.

Medication made for one patient

Compounding is how a pharmacist prepares a medication that isn't sold commercially (a different strength, a different form, or without an ingredient a patient can't tolerate) under a prescriber's order, for that patient only.

Farmacia Anaheim is our compounding pharmacy, licensed by the California Board of Pharmacy and operating under Section 503A of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.

When compounding is used

Only when a prescriber decides a commercial product doesn't fit.

A strength that isn't made

Paediatric and geriatric doses, tapering schedules, and strengths between the commercial ones.

A form that's easier to take

Liquids for patients who can't swallow tablets, topical preparations, flavoured versions for children and pets.

Without an ingredient you react to

Dye-free, gluten-free, lactose-free or preservative-free versions of a medication you need.

Two actives in one

Combinations a prescriber wants together. Kormiia™ (sildenafil + tadalafil) and our topical finasteride + minoxidil are examples.

Hormone therapy

Testosterone and other hormone preparations at prescriber-specified doses and forms.

Discontinued medications

When a manufacturer stops making something a patient depends on, a pharmacist can often prepare it.

Compounded medications are not FDA approved. The FDA does not review compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness or quality. Compounding is regulated by the California Board of Pharmacy and follows USP standards for non-sterile and sterile preparations. A compounded medication is not a generic version of a commercial product and we make no claim that it is equivalent to one.

Prescription required. Every compounded medication is prepared for a named patient from a prescriber's order. We do not sell compounded products over the counter or in bulk.
